Spring Forward

After writing this cathartic post yesterday, it seems the universe conspired to give me the fresh start I was looking for. Between completing my first CF Open WOD, dancing up a storm at a dear friend’s wedding, a feverish spring cleaning session and extra sunlight thanks to Daylight Savings Time, I am feeling content and grateful. Spring is in the air and it seems so full of promise.

Breakfast on Saturday was a batch of my “paleo” pancakes with a little bit of real maple syrup and a cup of decaf tea.

The meal powered me through my workout, the season’s first Open WOD.

“13.1″
17 min AMRAP:
40 Burpees
30 Snatches (75/45)
30 Burpees
30 Snatches (135/75)
20 Burpees
30 Snatches (165/100)
10 Burpees
As many as possible Snatches (210/120)

Luckily my back pain from the other night had (mostly) subsided, but I still took my good sweet time, especially with the burpees. I knew that the burpees would be the bigger challenge for me so kept a slow, steady pace. I only had a couple of minutes left when I got to the the 75# snatch set, but since I wasn’t totally smoked I was able to hit each of my attempts without trouble, ending with a score of 106. I’m happy with six @ 75 since my 1RM is just 78#.

Then I got all dressed up to go to my friends’ wedding, which they held in the beautiful East Hall of Union Station.

I enjoyed a glass of champagne, the pork tenderloin (sans potatoes), a slice of cake and a few nibbles from the dessert/candy bar, which included brownies and blondies, mocha mousse, jordan almonds and mango (!) gummy bears.

And then, finally, we danced! CrossFit has nothing on dancing in heels for four hours lol.

The party really knocked me out and combined with Daylight Savings Time, it was after 11 a.m. when I finally woke up. I don’t remember the last time I slept in like that, but it felt really, really good. I rushed to my noon CF class, where we did some bodyweight max efforts and a variation on the classic workout “Cindy.”

Max Pull-up Hold: 10 secs (PR)
2-min rest
Max Plank Hold: 1:40
2-min rest
Max Left Plank: 1:15
2-min rest
Max Right Plank: 1:05

Then…

“Sindy”
20-min AMRAP:
5 Jumping Pullups
10 Pushups
15 Air Squats

I finished 15 rounds + 16 reps, using a 22″ box for pushups and pull-ups.

My post-WOD “breakfast” (at 2 p.m.) was bacon and eggs, a 1/2 sweet potato, sauerkraut, some coconut water and a cup of decaf tea.

Then I spent the rest of the day cooking and cleaning. I had some cantaloupe as a snack, and for dinner I had turmeric sliders, the other 1/2 sweet potato, 1/2 avocado and some steamed spinach.

Day 1 of clean eating without bingeing is officially in the books.

And with that, I say goodnight.
